Day 5
Can
We Love Like God?
As we go along
with Upward Training, I am beginning to realize how much God really loves us
unconditionally. We can rest in that promise.
How can we love
others as God loves them? We cannot, but
He gives us the Holy Spirit to show us how to love. Have you ever had an experience where you have
given compassion, had patience and kindness for someone and they treated you
badly? How did you react, get mad and
retaliate or forgive them and love them?
I am learning that with the Holy Spirit’s leading, we can love that
person. Even if they misuse us and treat
us badly, we can forget it. Only the
love from God can give us the ability to love in this way. “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I Have loved you,
so you must love one another
(Jon 13:34).
God has given me
people to encourage and love and as I minister to them, I love them more each
day and have concern for their needs. We
can’t just walk up to someone and know what he or she needs or what God wants
us to do for him or her. Time is the
answer. The more time we spend with the
person the better we understand them.
Much like God, the more time we spend with Him the more we understand
what he has created us for.
I believe God
has people he has chosen for us to love and encourage and He imparts His love
to us so we can have patience, compassion and love for each one of them.

One clear theme
throughout this week has been that we are able to love with a compassionate
love for others as we experience the compassionate love of God for us.
Remember the following statements:

Holy Spirit to show us how to love. (Day 5)
