Day 3
Prayer is a key discipline of attachment.
One way to re-energize your
prayer life is to try different ways to pray.
Heather has provided some ideas for us today.
1.
Circle
Prayer - Walk around
the outside of your house talking to God, aloud or in your head, encircling it
in prayer. Ask Him to put a hedge of
protection around your house, to make your home a place of safety, joy, peace
and love. Ask God to bless your marriage
and make it better than you could ever imagine it to be, or if you are single
to make you content in your singleness.
Ask Him to help you be a godly parent and to circumcise your hearts and
that of your descendants to love Him with all of your hearts, souls, minds,
bodies, and strength. That your hearts
would be knit together in love with each other and with Him. That He would be pleased to dwell with you in
your home.
2.
Prayer Pact - Write down a list of one to three things that seems impossible
to you (ex. Get out of debt, save a loved one, revive your marriage). Something that you really want but seems out
of reach. Then make a commitment to pray
every day for those things for 40 days.
If you can, try to get one or more people to agree to pray for those things
every day for 40 days.
3.
Lift Your
Hands - Every day
we raise our hands in exultation or pump our fists in the air when our team
wins or something good happens. It is
how God made us. We celebrate! Let’s praise God this way. Go somewhere alone if this is uncomfortable
to do in public and lift up your hands towards heaven talking to God and
praising Him. Or play a worship song and
raise your hands singing along.
4.
Early prayer - Get up early today and spend time talking to God and just being
in His presence.
5.
Walk with
God - Go for a walk and ask God to
walk with you and for the Holy Spirit to help you to pray and to teach you to
pray earnestly and effectively. Imagine
Him walking right next to you and talk to Him like a friend. Sometimes it helps to talk out loud!
6.
Prayer
Positions - Pray in a
different way than you normally do. Try
kneeling, prostrate yourself with your forehead on the ground, walk around, sit
outside - just try something different!
Personal
Reflection or Discussion Questions
Which of the
above have you ever tried? How did it
enhance your prayer life?
