With
All Your Heart
Jesus said
that the greatest commandment was to love the Lord your God with all your heart
and all your soul and all your mind and all your strength.
This means loving the Lord with everything
you are. These four nouns convey a
wholeness and intensity of personal affection for God. They describe for us a total love from our
total person toward the one and only personal God. Below is the way we are understanding the
unique role of heart, soul, mind and strength in loving the Lord.

Disciplines of engagement
This week we will consider what it means to
love the Lord with all our hearts.
Let’s practice a discipline of
alignment...reflect, meditate on Joshua 24:23
23 “Now then,” said
Joshua, “throw away the foreign gods that
are among you and yield your hearts to
the Lord, the God of
Israel.”
What
“foreign gods” compete for your first love of the Lord? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Why
are you attracted to these “gods?”

What actions do you need to take to “throw away” these gods?

Now let’s practice attachment…prayer. Reflecting specifically on this devotional,
write out a prayer to God, throwing away foreign god and yielding your heart to
the Lord
