Day 5
Love Is Not Proud
To close out the week: consider the following paraphrase of 1
Corinthians 13:4-7, written to demonstrate how pride, here called the arrogant,
contradicts love at every turn.
·
The
humble can wait patiently, while the arrogant wants it now!
·
The
humble demonstrates kindness, while the arrogant only wants his own needs
noticed.
·
The
humble are content, not envious, while the arrogant feel they deserve
more.
·
The
humble does not act unbecomingly, while the arrogant are rude.
·
The
humble shows a servant’s spirit, while the arrogant demands to be served.
·
The
humble are not easily provoked, while the arrogant are quick to take offense.
·
The
humble forgive a wrong suffered, while the arrogant can’t rest until they even
the score.
·
The
humble rejoice in truth, while the arrogant rejoice in what makes them look
good.
·
The
humble can bear, believe, hope and endure all things, while the arrogant are usually
too self-focused for this.
From A Love That Never Fails by H. Dale Burke
Reflecting specifically upon this devotional,
write out a prayer to God.
