Reflection
Dietrich Bonhoeffer*, a martyr
for Christ during the Nazi regime, said, “God loves human beings. God loves the
world. Not an ideal human, but human beings as they are; not an ideal world,
but the real world. What we find repulsive in their opposition to God, what we
shrink back from with pain and hostility, namely, real human beings, the real
world, this is for God the ground of unfathomable love.”
Read
Psalm 139 and Romans 5:8.
Meditate on this quote and on these passages
for a moment, and then answer these questions:
Is
there anything inside me would make others, or even myself, shrink back from
with pain and hostility, that God finds worthy
of loving?
